Description

This private tour combines the famous Golden Circle route with a unique cultural experience — visiting the historic Caves of Laugarvatn, also known as The Cave People.

Your day begins with pickup in Reykjavík by your private driver-guide before heading toward Iceland’s most famous sightseeing route — the Golden Circle.

The first stop is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates slowly move apart. This is also the birthplace of the Icelandic parliament, founded in the year 930.

Next, the tour continues to the Geysir geothermal area, home to the active Strokkur geyser which erupts every few minutes, sending hot water high into the air.

From there, you will visit the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall, where the glacial river Hvítá plunges dramatically into a rugged canyon.

The journey then continues to the Caves of Laugarvatn, a fascinating historical site where Icelandic families actually lived inside caves less than a century ago. These caves served as real homes where families slept, cooked, and raised children while building their lives within the rock itself.

During the guided visit, you will learn how people survived Iceland’s harsh conditions, see old photographs and historical details, and step inside the cave homes to understand what daily life was like in early 20th-century Iceland.

Two types of cave experiences are available and can be added to your tour:

  • Standard Cave Tour – a guided visit with storytelling and historical insight (approx. 25 minutes).
  • Private Cave Tour – a more exclusive experience with storytelling and optional Icelandic food tasting.

During the tour you will also visit additional stops such as Kerid volcanic crater, the Friðheimar tomato farm area, and a traditional Icelandic horse farm, giving you a deeper look into Icelandic countryside and culture.
